The Best Splash/Spray Parks in Edmonton (and How to Capture the Fun in Photos)
Let’s Make a Splash (and Get the Best Photos While We’re At It)
Edmonton summers are short, so when the sun finally decides to make an appearance, we have to make the most of it. What better way to keep the kids cool and entertained than a trip to one of the city’s best splash parks? Whether you’re a seasoned local or new to Edmonton, I’ve rounded up the top splash parks, plus some bonus water-filled destinations just outside the city. And because I’m a documentary family photographer, I’ll throw in some tips on capturing those summer memories in photos—without waterlogging your camera.
Here’s what we’ll cover:
The Best Splash Parks in Edmonton
Edmonton has no shortage of splash parks, but some are truly worth the visit. These parks offer fun water features, plenty of shade, and, most importantly, a chance for parents to sit down for five minutes while the kids burn off energy.
- Jackie Parker Park, 4540 50 St NW, Edmonton, AB
This one’s a crowd favourite for good reason. Not only does it have an epic splash pad with sprayers, dumping buckets, and ground jets, but it also boasts a huge playground and picnic areas. If you have kids who refuse to commit to just one activity, this is the place to be.
Photo Tip: Get down low and capture your child’s expression just as the water bucket tips over. The sheer terror and excitement make for an excellent action shot!
- Kinsmen Spray Park, 9100 Walterdale Hill NW, Edmonton, AB
Right next to the river valley, this park comes with stunning views, making it a great option for families who love to mix water play with a scenic walk. Plus, it has a variety of fountains, water cannons, and even a mini waterfall feature.
Photo Tip: Use the golden hour (early morning or evening) for the best natural light. The water droplets will sparkle, and you won’t have to deal with harsh midday shadows.
- Borden Park Splash Pad, 7507 Borden Park Rd NW, Edmonton, AB
Borden Park offers a modern and artistic splash pad with interactive water jets. This one feels a little less chaotic compared to others, making it great for younger kids or those who don’t love being blasted in the face by water cannons.
Photo Tip: Zoom in on little details—tiny toes in the water, hands reaching for the spray, or water droplets suspended mid-air. These make for gorgeous storytelling images.
- Castle Downs Spray Park, 11520 153 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB
A fantastic choice for North Edmonton families, this splash park is huge. Bonus: it’s right next to a fantastic playground and has picnic tables for those mid-afternoon snack breaks (because we all know kids are always starving).
Photo Tip: Try capturing movement! Use burst mode on your phone or camera to get action shots of your kids running through the fountains.
- The Legislature Grounds Fountains, 10800 97 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB
Okay, not technically a splash park, but still one of the best spots in the city for a refreshing dip. The wading pools at the Legislature are iconic, and the beautiful architecture in the background makes for some pretty epic family photos.
Photo Tip: Step back and get a wide shot of your kids playing with the stunning Legislature building in the background. It’s an Edmonton classic.

How to Capture the Fun in Photos
Summer splash park photos can be tricky with all the movement, water, and (let’s be honest) chaotic energy. Here are some simple tricks to get great shots:
- Use a fast shutter speed – If you have a camera with manual settings, crank up the shutter speed to freeze the action. For phone cameras, burst mode works wonders.
- Focus on expressions – The joy, surprise, and sheer excitement on kids’ faces as they get drenched? Priceless.
- Get in close – Don’t just take wide shots. Capture the little details—tiny wet curls, dripping hands, or water splashes mid-air.
- Try black and white – Water play can get visually busy, but black and white photos cut out distractions and highlight expressions.
- Stay dry – If you’re using a camera, invest in a waterproof cover or simply use your phone with a water-resistant case. No one wants a soggy camera repair bill.
And if you’d rather be in on the fun instead of behind the camera, taking your kids to a splash park is a fantastic idea during a documentary family photo session. That way, I can capture all the laughter, splashes, and joyful chaos while you simply enjoy the moment with your family—without worrying about getting the perfect shot yourself.
Bonus: More Water Fun Within an Hour of Edmonton
If you want to venture a little further for a full day of water fun, check out these options:
- Wabamun Lake Provincial Park (1 hour west of Edmonton)
Perfect for a lakeside escape, Wabamun has a sandy beach, shallow water for kids, and plenty of picnic spots.
Photo Tip: Capture your kids playing in the sand with a low-angle shot to get both them and the beautiful lake in the frame.
- Sylvan Lake, AB (1.5 hours south of Edmonton, but worth the drive!)
This is a summer hotspot, with a fantastic beach, shallow water, and an adorable town full of ice cream shops (which, let’s be honest, is half the fun).
Photo Tip: Ice cream + lake views = the perfect summer memory shot.
- Discovery Canyon, (3800 40 Ave, Red Deer, AB)
A lazy river experience without the hefty price tag! This natural river-fed water park is a dream for kids who love tubing.
Photo Tip: Capture action shots as they float down the lazy river. Waterproof your phone and get low for an immersive effect.
- Allan Beach Resort, Spruce Grove, AB (35 minutes west of Edmonton)
A private beach with soft sand, warm water, and minimal crowds. Great for a relaxed day away from the city.
Photo Tip: Bring a zoom lens (or use portrait mode on your phone) for beautiful candid shots of kids playing by the shore.

Book a Summer Session (Before It’s Snowing Again)
If you’re making summer memories, why not document them in a way that lasts longer than a few Instagram stories? As an Edmonton family photographer, I love capturing families enjoying real moments together—whether that’s splashing at a park, running through a field, or just having an ice cream meltdown. If you’re thinking about a fun, natural family session, let’s chat! You bring the towels, and I’ll bring the camera.
